Our Venues

  • The John Muir Grove

    A circle of giant redwoods (Sequoiadendron giganteum) creates a cathedral-like atmosphere. These redwoods, planted in the 1920s, have now reached over 24 m in height. The area is named to honour the Scots-born writer, explorer and conservationist who founded the US National Park system.

    • Suitable for Civil and Humanist wedding ceremonies
    • Capacity x 120 (includes seating for x 40)
    • Wheelchair accessible
    • Available during garden daylight opening hours
    • Inclement weather provision will be provided when possible but cannot not be guaranteed
    • Can be booked for ceremony only or for ceremony and dining to follow in one of our indoor venues.

  • The Caledonian Hall

    The Caledonian Hall, situated at the east side of the Garden, was completed in 1843 and was originally built as the Herbarium.  This grade B listed building with stunning high ceilings and large windows offers lots of natural daylight. The views overlooking the Rock Garden and waterfalls complete the stunning setting.

    • Suitable for Civil and Humanist ceremonies
    • Capacity up to 100 for a ceremony and dining
    • Wheelchair accessible
    • Available from Garden opening until midnight

    Evening receptions also available to a maximum of 120 guests.

  • The John Hope Gateway

    This bright and sustainable space offering indoor and outdoor options is located on the West side of the garden.  Looking directly onto the stunning backdrop of the Biodiversity garden from the outdoor terrace area, this venue can be used for ceremonies, evening dining and receptions.

    Opened by Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth in 2010, this is our largest venue on site, with the option to use both the upper and lower floors and is available for hire from one hour after the garden closes through until 1.00am.  The dining capacity offered is up to 200 guests, and up to 300 guests for an evening dancing reception.

  • David Douglas Room

    A stunningly bright room overlooking the Garden which is located within our John Hope Gateway Building. This area has its own private entrance to the room and the decked terrace with the natural backdrop of the garden offering a stunning setting for the wedding ceremony or a drinks reception to follow.

    • Suitable for Civil and Humanist ceremonies
    • Capacity for up to 32 guests
    • Wheelchair accessible
    • Can be booked for ceremony only, or ceremony with drinks reception, Afternoon Tea, Lunch or Dinner
  • The Chinese Pavilion

    A unique and stunningly beautiful location for a smaller ceremony for up to 25 guests set at the foot of the hillside overlooking the pond.

    • Available from 10am during Garden open hours

    Following on from the ceremony, the David Douglas Room is the perfect location for a drinks reception, Afternoon Tea, Lunch or Dinner. 

  • The Terrace

    Located in the heart of the Garden, our Terrace Café is a bright and airy venue with a garden feel which is available for evening ceremonies, drinks receptions and informal dining with a capacity of up to 80 guests. This area also has an outdoor patio with tables and parasols.

    • Available from one hour after Garden closing time through to 11.00pm.

Wedding Photography

  • We also offer wedding photography within our grounds.  Entry to the garden is bookable in hour long periods, and is subject to availability.  The allocated area for photography is the Rock Garden on the East side of the garden.  However, if this is not available at the time of booking for your required date, we can offer alternative locations within our grounds.

    Included in the package is entry for the wedding party to a maximum of 12 people including the wedding couple within garden opening hours.

    The price for photography is £500 + vat per hour.

    Please note the following points:

    • This package does not include a photographer
    • There is no access to the glasshouses exterior or interior areas
    • Drones are not permitted for filming or photography
